Background

The MEI Project is a collaborative research project between the University of Nairobi (UoN) and the University of Manitoba (UoM) funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to strengthen research capacity in Kenya. The project aims to build capacity in maternal and child health research, focusing on implementation science. The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Nairobi is seeking to recruit a Project Clinician Scientist (PCS) to support the MEI Project.

Responsibilities

The Project Clinician Scientist will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the design and implementation of research studies within the MEI Project.
  • Conducting clinical research activities, including patient recruitment, data collection, and sample management.
  • Analyzing research data and contributing to the interpretation of findings.
  • Preparing research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Presenting research findings at local and international conferences.
  • Mentoring junior researchers and students.
  • Ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements for research.
  • Participating in project meetings and contributing to project planning and reporting.

Qualifications and Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Paediatrics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Implementation Science) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in clinical research, particularly in maternal and child health.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) is an added advantage.

Experience

Previous experience in a research setting, preferably in a project-based environment, is required. Experience in clinical trials or implementation science research will be an advantage.

Additional Notes

This is a full-time position based at the University of Nairobi. The successful candidate will be expected to commit to the duration of the MEI Project.
