Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning
  • Manage inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, including admission, review, and discharge planning
  • Prescribe, review, and monitor psychiatric medications in line with best clinical practice
  • Provide psychotherapy and other evidence-based therapeutic interventions as appropriate
  • Monitor treatment outcomes and adjust care plans accordingly
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to medical officers, interns, and other clinical staff
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical notes, reports, and medico-legal records
  • Participate in on-call duties and emergency psychiatric services as scheduled
  • Uphold patient safety, confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional conduct
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits, and clinical governance activities
  • Participate in continuous professional development and hospital training programs
  • Liaise with families, caregivers, and external stakeholders to support continuity of care
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and S.O.Ps
  • Any other duty as may be assigned

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Strong clinical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • High standards of professionalism, empathy, and ethical practice

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB or equivalent)
  • Master’s degree in Psychiatry or equivalent recognized qualification
  • Registered and licensed by K.M.P.D.C
  • Valid practicing license
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in psychiatric practice (mental hospital experience is an added advantage)
