REF: INTEX/HR/JD2025

REPORTING LINE: SITE AGENT/ HEAD OF TECHNICAL

SALARY: Ksh. 80,000 - 90,000

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures and responsible for managing costs relating to civil engineering projects by minimizing the costs of the project and enhancing value for money.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of tender and contract documents, including bill of quantities
  • Conducting feasibility studies to estimate materials, time, and labor costs.
  • Undertaking cost analysis for project works in all sites
  • Carries out regular site supervisory visits to projects to monitor their execution.
  • Ensuring project planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Performing risk and value management and cost control
  • Preparing and analyzing costing for tenders
  • Providing advice on contractual claims
  • Assisting the Contracts Engineer in preparation of estimates for tenders.
  • Representing the company for site visits for tendering purposes (Pre tendering).
  • Evaluation of prices / costs of new items under variations.
  • Maintains record of calculations and back up for cost estimates.
  • Ensure adherence to all QSHE procedures, policies and instructions in all sites.
  • Report to Technical Manager on all Site activities and trends.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Cost Accuracy: Measure the accuracy of cost estimates to ensure precise financial planning and management
  • Timely delivery of Cost Reports: Assess the promptness of cost reports to facilitate decision making and prevent misunderstandings
  • Cost Variance: Track the difference between estimated and actual costs to improve cost control and identify variances
  • Project Timeline Adherence: Monitor the adherence of project timelines to ensure resource allocation and budget compliance
  • Client Satisfaction Rate: Evaluate the level of client happiness with project delivery and service quality to influence future business

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering or Higher Diploma in Building Construction.
  • Qualification or training in project management
  • In-depth experience (minimum 5 years) of Quantity Surveying work, associated procedures and practices, preferably in a large public/private organization
  • Budget handling skills
  • Organizational skills; communication and negotiating skills
  • Clear understanding of Construction Regulations and other legal guidelines
  • Proficiency in CAD application
  • Knowledge of construction methods and materials
  • In-depth knowledge of Standard Method of Measurement and Codes of Procedure for Quantity Surveying Practice
  • Be able to provide both summarized and detailed reports on current activities.
  • IT Literate able to use Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
  • In depth knowledge of contract administration, Design and Build, Intermediate and Minor Works
