Duties and Responsibilities
Reports to the Chief Officers Department of Health Services and will be deployed to perform the following duties: –
- Taking medical histories from children and their guardians.
- Performing physical examinations to assess a child’s health.
- Ordering and interpreting laboratory and other medical tests to aid in diagnosis.
- Diagnosing and treating common pediatric ailments and injuries.
- Managing children with acute malnutrition in line with integrated guidelines.
- Implementing treatment plans under the guidance of senior staff.
- Prescribing medications and intravenous fluids.
- Performing basic medical and surgical procedures.
- Performing procedures such as blood draws and lumbar punctures.
- Providing guidance and counseling to patients and families on health-related issues.
- Implementing community healthcare activities and health education programs.
- Promoting rational drug use and adherence to treatment guidelines.
- Documenting patient care and procedures in patient records or electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Reporting notifiable diseases to immediate supervisors and ensuring isolation when necessary.
Requirements for Appointment
- Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery in Child Health and Pediatrics from a recognized Institution.
- Certificate of Registration from the Clinical Officers’ Council.
- Valid Professional Practice License from the Clinical Officers’ Council.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
