A Registered Clinical Officer (RCO) is a healthcare professional who undergoes intensive training, usually a diploma in clinical medicine and community health, to diagnose, treat, and manage common illnesses and injuries, perform minor procedures, and provide community-based health services, working under the guidance of senior practitioners.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Assessing patients by taking medical history, conducting physical examinations, and ordering medical tests to diagnose and treat common illnesses and injuries. Medical Procedures: Performing minor surgical procedures within their scope of training and skill. Patient Care: Providing consultation, managing patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings, and guiding and counseling patients on health issues. Community Health: Implementing community healthcare activities, conducting health outreach, and sensitizing communities on preventive and promotive health. Administration: Assisting with administrative duties in health facilities and managing health data and projects. Referral: Referring patients to appropriate health facilities or specialized practitioners when necessary. Collaboration: Working with other health workers, including medical doctors, and collaborating with pharmacy and laboratory staff.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Ability to take patient histories, perform physical examinations, order appropriate investigations, make diagnoses, and provide treatment for common ailments. Procedure Competence: Performing minor surgical procedures and other specialized clinical services, such as those in Ear, Nose, Throat/Audiology, Orthopedics, and Reproductive Health. Referrals and Monitoring: Monitoring patients, making appropriate referrals when necessary, and overseeing admissions. Clinical Data Management: Compiling and analyzing clinical data and participating in disease surveillance and control.
