Key Responsibilities:

  • Head the laboratory quality management unit
  • Ensure the processes needed for QMS are established, implemented and maintained
  • Promote awareness of users’ needs and requirements throughout the laboratory and HIV research branch
  • Ensure compliance and conformance with requirements for applicable regulatory entities (e.g. ISO 15189, KENAS, GCLP/HSP)
  • Perform periodic laboratory internal audits and ensure departments perform timely follow up of audit findings
  • Prepare and present QMS and/or other related information to the stakeholders
  • Provide oversight and documentation of all laboratory trainings and competency assessments
  • Perform external audit and inspection preparations
  • Ensure procedure manuals and policies are written, updated and approved in a timely manner
  • Identify and address complaints, non-conformances and corrective actions
  • Schedule and organize management review meetings in consultation with the laboratory director
  • Prepare quarterly quality management system reports
  • Mentor, advise and provide technical support to fellow scientists, graduate students and interns
  • Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time by immediate supervisor.

Requirments and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, or relevant scientific qualifications from a recognized institution.
  • Training in analytical skills and use of at least one statistical software package, e.g., STATA, R, SPSS, or SAS.
  • Registration by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) or any relevant registration body, with a valid current practicing license.
  • ISO 19011 internal audit training for medical laboratory officers.
  • Excellent teamwork and time management skills.
