St. Luke’s Orthopaedic and Trauma Hospital is an ultra-modern hospital started in the year 2012, after operating as a clinic and an orthopaedics supplier since year 2005.

Job Purpose

The Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist will provide comprehensive specialist obstetric and gynaecological care, ensuring high-quality, safe, and evidence-based clinical services to women across the continuum of reproductive health. The successful candidate will provide leadership in women’s health, support multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to continuous quality improvement within the hospital.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Provide specialist outpatient and inpatient obstetric and gynaecological services.
  • Diagnose and manage normal and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Conduct antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and postnatal care.
  • Perform elective and emergency obstetric and gynaecological surgical procedures, including Caesarean sections, hysterectomies, laparotomies, laparoscopic procedures where applicable, and other major and minor surgeries.
  • Manage obstetric and gynaecological emergencies in accordance with national and international clinical guidelines.
  • Conduct infertility assessments and provide appropriate management or referrals.
  • Diagnose and manage benign and malignant gynaecological conditions.
  • Supervise labour ward, maternity, theatre, and gynaecology ward clinical services.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and clinical meetings.
  • Interpret diagnostic investigations including ultrasound, laboratory, and radiological findings.
  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation, patient records, and medico-legal reports.
  • Mentor and supervise Medical Officers, Clinical Officers, Nurses, and interns.
  • Participate in clinical audits, mortality reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and Continuing Medical Education (CME).
  • Promote infection prevention and control, patient safety, and ethical medical practice.
  • Participate in the hospital’s emergency response and on-call roster.
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by hospital management.

Qualifications or requirements 

Applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized university.
  • Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or an equivalent specialist qualification recognized in Kenya.
  • Specialist recognition and registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • A valid Annual Practising Licence.
  • Fellowship qualification (COSECSA, RCOG or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (or equivalent) will be an added advantage.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ post-specialization clinical experience in a busy Level 4, Level 5, Level 6 hospital or equivalent.
