JOB DETAILS:
Job Description Reporting to the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, the Risk Manager will coordinate all risk management efforts of the Bank and ensure that inherent risks are minimized to the greatest extent possible. The risk manager will be responsible for risk identification, assessment, mitigation/control, and risk reporting. The candidate will be responsible for designing Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) and dashboards, such as Key Risk Indicator (KRI) tools, to collect data and conduct research to recognize the risks to which an organization may be exposed. As part of the investigation process, risk managers should analyze key risk indicators (KRI). The incumbent will also be required to double as a Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and coordinate efforts in customer identification, KYC, customer classification, transaction monitoring, suspicious transaction reporting, record keeping, and staff training. You will need to be a self-starter and a team player with good negotiation skills. You will be expected to put policies and lobby senior management to buy into proposed risk management approaches.

Responsibilities
• Design and implement a risk management framework including policies, procedures, tools and systems.
• Coordinate all risk management activities in the bank by creating workflows and organizing teams around the workflows to identify, assess, mitigate and report identified risks.
• Coordinate risk management efforts for key risk management areas, namely operational risk, credit risk and market risk.
• Act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in accordance with the requirements of the Kenya Proceeds of Crime and Money Laundering Regulations (POCAMLA 2013).
• Conduct risk assessments using the relevant Risk Control Self Assessment (RCSA) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI) tools.
• Analyze current and future risks faced by the bank and propose mitigations for them.
• Establish the bank's risk appetite.
• Prepare risk management reports for the Board Risk Committee.
• Act as secretary of the Board Risk Committee and convene meetings of the Board Risk Committee as set out in the CBK Prudential Guidelines.
• Create and implement a business continuity management plan and occupational health and safety plans.
• Create and implement an Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Adequacy Planning (ICAAP) strategy in collaboration with all senior management (Exco) as set out in the CBK Prudential Guidelines.
• Ensure that relevant customer and transaction records are maintained and retained for the period prescribed in the (POCAMLA 2013).
• Conduct Risk and Anti-Money Laundering awareness in the bank through planned and mandatory staff training and awareness sessions.

Skills
• An undergraduate degree in the relevant field
• 3-5 years of experience in a busy banking environment in a similar role.
• Analytical skills.
• Good knowledge of CBK Prudential Guidelines, CBK Risk Management Guidelines, Kenya Microfinance Act (2016), Basel Accord/CSO Framework, Kenya POCAMLA Act and Guidelines, Kenya Prevention of Terrorism Act, and Guidelines.
