Responsibilities or duties

We are seeking to recruit a competent, experienced, and results-oriented School Accountant to join our Finance Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, supporting financial planning, and promoting sound financial management within the school.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.

CPA section III qualification or an equivalent professional accounting certification.

Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Demonstrated ability to work with digital accounting platforms and school management systems.

Tech-savvy with the ability to work with digital accounting and school management systems.

High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.

Experience needed

A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a school or educational institution.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, books of accounts, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the school's budgets and cash flow projections.
  • Manage school fees invoicing, collection, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Process payroll accurately and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions.
  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax laws and all statutory reporting requirements.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash and bank transactions.
  • Maintain an effective internal control system to safeguard school assets and financial resources.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
  • Prepare payment vouchers and process supplier payments in accordance with school policies.
  • Monitor expenditure to ensure adherence to approved budgets.
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset registers and inventory records.
  • Support procurement processes through financial verification and budget control.
  • Generate financial reports to support strategic decision-making by school management.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and uphold the highest standards of professional ethics.
  • Utilize accounting software and school management systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform any other finance and accounting duties assigned by the School Administration.
