Responsibilities or duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Security Officer will be expected to:
- Supervise security staff;
- Ensure security of all visitors of the University and making reports thereof;
- Enforcement of traffic discipline within the University;
- Make regular security surveys and reports summaries on campus security;
- Prevent and report any theft or loss of Laikipia University properties;
- Handle welfare matters of security staff e.g. uniforms, leave roster, off-duty, duty roster, etc;
- Carry out investigation of all security incidences such as fire, and assist in orderly movement of people to safe areas within the University premises;
- Collect and gather intelligence report including the CCTV surveillance;
- Ensuring that University’s assets are secured;
- Conduct security risk assessment;
- Implementing security policies;
- Review security reports to ensure efficiency and quality of Security operations;
- Ensure the implementation of security strategies and procedures;
- Coordinate security operations with public law enforcement agencies;
- Implement emergency management and contingency procedures;
- Prepare reports and submit security reports to the Vice Chancellor;
- Identify, investigate and resolve security breaches;
- Coordinate training and development of security staff;
- Supervise contracted security services; and
- Any other duties as may be assigned, prescribed and/or delegated by the immediate supervisor
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT:
For appointment to this post, a candidate MUST have;
- Attained the rank of Inspector of Police or its equivalent OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Security related studies from a recognized institution;
- Attendance of a supervisory or other professional course lasting more than two weeks will be an added advantage; and
Experience needed
- Experience: At least six [6] years’ experiences in security services, three [3] years of which you must have served as Security Officer II or equivalent.

TERMS OF SERVICE FIVE [5] YEARS’ CONTRACT WITH ELIGIBILITY FOR RE-APPOINTMENT ON
SATISFACTORY WORK PERFORMANCE.
Reports To: The Vice Chancellor, Laikipia University.
NOTE:
Successful candidates will be required to obtain clearance from the:
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
- Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC);
- Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI);
- Registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB); and
- The Commission for University Education (CUE) on Certificates conferred or awarded by Foreign Universities and Institutions (As applicable).
Provide evidence on compliance with the requirements of Chapter six [6] of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
