Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview),
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior/Chief Accountant to join our finance team.
Responsibilities or duties,
Financial Controls & Transaction Authorization
- Review and authorize petty cash vouchers in the system after posting by the Cashier and verification by the Finance Manager.
- Review and authorize bank receipt vouchers after posting by the Receivables Accountant and confirmation of banking.
- Review and authorize bank payment vouchers after processing by the Payables Accountant and approvals by relevant officers.
- Review and authorize depot cash imprest vouchers after posting and verification by management.
- Review and authorize expense vouchers after posting by the Payables Accountant.
- Review and post adjusting journal entries after verification and approval by the Finance Manager.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare and file indirect and direct taxes including VAT, instalment tax, final tax, standard levy, and other applicable returns.
- Ensure timely payment of all taxes and statutory obligations.
Month-End & Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with full IFRS standards.
- Support monthly closing process and ensure timely closure of books.
- Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Support monthly closing process and ensure timely closure of books.
- Assist the Finance Manager in preparation and review of Trial Balance, management accounts, and financial reports.
- Ensure all reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
Accounts Receivable & Credit Control
- Authorize credit notes with proper supporting documentation.
- Monitor debtors ageing reports and follow up overdue accounts.
Inventory Control
- Plan monthly stock takes in coordination with relevant departments.
- Participate in stock counts and ensure reconciliation of stock variances.
- Strengthen inventory control procedures.
Audit & Compliance
- Prepare schedules and supporting documents for external audits.
- Liaise with auditors during annual and interim audits.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.
Team Support & Leadership
- Supervise junior accounting staff and provide technical guidance.
- Support continuous improvement of finance processes and ERP controls.
- Deputize for the Finance Manager when required.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills),
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, or Commerce.
- Professional qualification such as CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent is mandatory.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel (Advanced level).
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Experience needed,
- Minimum 10 years’ of progressive experience in accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or FMCG environment with 4 years as a Senior Accountant
