  • A leading medium sized law firm with various accolades in various practice areas is seeking for a competent associate in order to contribute valuably to the firm.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support Partners and effectively work with others.
  • Invest time and effort to coach and train less experienced team members 
  • Supervise and appraise direct reports based on the firm’s policies and systems. 
  • Identify client needs and respond quickly with recommended solutions. 
  • Respond promptly and professionally to requests, challenges relating to client matters.
  • Work to meet target as set within the department or unit. 
  • As directed by the supervisors follow up billing and accounts receivable.
  • Demonstrate a high level of productivity in work through time and cost control and management of budgets and expenses.
  • Keep abreast of issues that may affect the industry and the clients.
  • Remain current on client\'s business and industry to ensure that advice provided is sound and relevant. 
  • Provide Legal opinion on matters relating to Property & Real estate,Banking and Finance, Conveyancing, Commercial or Corporate law
  • Drafting Conveyancing documents and other Legal documents.
  • Preparing and Sending terms of engagement and estimates of fees and disbursements
  • Oversee handling of all client matters before the Lands Registry, Local Authorities and Survey of Kenya & National Lands Commission.
  • Liaising with clients and key stakeholders such as the mortgage lenders, estate agents, land valuers.
  • Provide legal opinion, advice on commercial and corporate transactions and matters.
  • Carrying out the negotiation, drafting and review of commercial contracts, legal documents and ensuring they are duly executed.
  • Offer legal advice to clients on the legal processes involved in purchasing & selling of property.
  • Conduct due diligence on conveyancing transactions, prepare sale agreements, completion documents and ensure proper registration of documents.
  • Prepare property lease agreements & ensure contracts are duly signed as scheduled.
  • Liaising with clients and key stakeholders such as the mortgage lenders, Land Registry, Government Departments, estate agents, land valuers and surveyors.
  • Assist with due diligence and other intellectual property issues related to contracts, agreements and other transactional matters.
  • Enhance the firm’s client base through effective liaison with existing clients.
  • Ability to prepare security documents.
  • Research and apply, as appropriate, new work-related information that may vary in complexity. 
  • Perform any other duties allocated. 

Qualifications:

  • LLB degree from a recognized university.
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya or an equivalent qualification in the Commonwealth (with the intention to immediately qualify to practice in Kenya).
  • A technically strong advocate in at least their 5th Post Qualification year with solid exposure to Banking and Finance, Conveyancing, Real Estate, Commercial or Corporate law practice in private or as in house counsel.

  • Demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with clients and all individuals across the Firm.
  • Must have high moral integrity and character.
  • Highly organized and good time management skills.
  • Focused on performance and results.
  • Poised to work under pressure with very little supervision.
  • Focused and inquisitive learner, proactively pursues opportunities to build expertise and skills.
  • Desire and ability to learn from and confer on an ongoing basis with other Advocates of the Firm when the handling matters with a view to continuously developing professional knowledge and expertise.
