What Will You Do
Stakeholder Engagement (70%)
• Develop and execute a program of activity and engagement to socialize the insights of WRI’s energy transitions work directly with local and international stakeholders from state, non-state, and civil society sectors.
• Develop and execute a strategy to deliver insights directly into key diplomacy initiatives actively governing energy transitions policy and finance (such as the Energy Transition Council, the Global Green Grids Initiative, or the Continental Power Systems Master Planning exercise).
• Scope and manage the establishment of a regional dialogue platform on Just Energy Transitions, creating a much-needed space for evidenced debate and discussion that can inform perspectives and decisions.
• Liaise with related WRI Africa programs (including the New Climate Economy, Vital Landscapes, and Thriving Resilient Cities) to closely coordinate direct advisory to governments, the AGN, the COP Presidency etc leveraging the Energy Transitions work and findings.
• Orchestrate bilateral meetings, workshops, and wider industry events as part of the above strategy.
• Help to strengthen engagement with EU, Asian, and other strategic state actors, to proactively bring the African perspective to key international institutions that are interested in engagement.
• Leverage the efforts of key WRI platforms such as Allied for Climate Transformation by 2025 (ACT25) to identify strategic avenues for leveraging our findings for broader engagement on transitions.

Communication (20%)
• Work with our Energy Transitions team, including the Senior Research Associate on Energy Transitions to produce multiple forms of thought leadership on the key themes our research addresses, helping to synthesize analytical insights and bring clarity & structure on complex energy transition topics.
• Assist in the production of workshop materials, policy briefs, technical papers, long-form reports, and other relevant materials with the support of the research team.
• Coordinate event management and logistics for all engagement and for the dialogue platform, with the support of the communication team.
• Engage in public speaking on the program’s behalf where necessary.

Program Management (10%)
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with project partners and donors.
• Contribute to energy transitions program fundraising proposals and the fundraising process.
• Ensure sound donor stewardship, good grant management, and timely communication and reporting.

What will you need:
Education:
You have completed a Master’s degree in international relations, international development, public policy, energy policy or related field.
Experience: You have 8+ years of relevant experience in engagement, with an energy focus, and preferably with a focus on regional/global negotiations processes.
• Strong knowledge of energy policy with a track record of working with energy sector stakeholders around energy policy development in Africa.
• Experience in engaging with national governments, regional and international institutions and CSOs involved in energy work in Africa.
• Experience in conducting and publishing research on energy, sustainable development, environment, or related fields in Africa.
• Experience working with international stakeholders and facilitating high-level engagement. Extensive professional engagement and relationship cultivation, public relations, and/or political experience, including liaising with senior government and corporate leaders.
• Understanding of Africa’s development opportunities, the political economy, and development partners.
• Languages: You have written and verbal proficiency in English. Proficiency in French is highly desirable.
• Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization
