About the Role
Miale Solar Solutions is strengthening its engineering function to ensure every project is designed, delivered, and quality-controlled to a consistently high standard. We are recruiting a Senior Engineer to take ownership of engineering design and technical oversight across our project portfolio, combining hands-on project engineering and project management with rigorous quality assurance and quality control.
This role will also serve as the key technical link to the Procurement team, ensuring equipment specifications, vendor evaluations, and technical compliance are properly assessed and upheld. More broadly, the Senior Engineer supports project delivery and engineering governance, helping to build consistent standards, processes, and accountability across the organization.
This role also carries senior-level oversight of key electrical and power systems matters — including power quality, power factor correction, and solar/BESS/inverter integration — directing resolution through the technical team rather than performing hands-on field diagnostics. Day-to-day, hands-on electrical troubleshooting and field-level power quality work remain with the Field Engineer and site technical teams; the Senior Engineer provides the broader design, project, QA/QC, procurement, and governance oversight across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design and Technical Oversight
- Provide engineering design input and technical oversight across active and upcoming projects, ensuring designs are technically sound, compliant, and fit for purpose.
- Review and validate engineering designs and drawings before implementation, flagging risks or deviations from technical standards.
- Oversee power quality matters across client sites— including power factor correction, harmonic distortion, and voltage fluctuation issues — directing resolution through the relevant technical teams.
- Oversee assessment and reconfiguration of power factor correction (PFC) banks at sites where solar deployment has altered demand profiles, ensuring corrective action is properly scoped and executed.
- Lead electrical distribution board design, optimization, and standardization across projects.
- Oversee protection coordination and electrical system commissioning for new and existing installations.
- Oversee integration of solar PV, BESS, and grid-tied inverter systems, including review of control-setting configurations.
- Support root-cause analysis and technical troubleshooting for design, quality, or equipment-related issues arising during project delivery.
Project Engineering and Project Management
- Lead project engineering activities, translating design intent into buildable, well-documented project plans.
- Manage day-to-day project management tasks, including scope, schedule, and resourcing, in coordination with installation and delivery teams.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control Across Projects
- Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) frameworks, checklists, and inspection procedures across all projects.
- Conduct QA/QC audits and site inspections, identifying non-conformances and driving corrective actions.
Technical Support to Procurement (Equipment Specifications, Vendor Evaluations & Technical Compliance)
- Provide technical support to the Procurement team on equipment specifications, ensuring purchased materials and components meet project and design requirements.
- Support vendor evaluations, including technical assessment of supplier capability, product performance, and compliance documentation.
- Review and confirm technical compliance of equipment, materials, and vendor submissions against internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Supporting Project Delivery and Engineering Governance
- Support project delivery by identifying and resolving technical bottlenecks, escalating issues where necessary, and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
- Contribute to engineering governance by developing, maintaining, and enforcing internal technical standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including design records, QA/QC reports, and vendor compliance files.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering and project staff.
- Participate in project reviews and governance meetings, reporting on engineering, QA/QC, and procurement-related technical matters.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field)
- Minimum 8-10 years + of relevant experience in engineering design, project engineering, or technical project management, ideally within solar, renewable energy, or a related technical industry.
- EPRA T3 License
- Demonstrated experience in quality assurance and quality control processes, including audits, inspections, and non-conformance management.
- Experience providing technical support to procurement functions, including equipment specification review and vendor technical evaluation.
- Proven track record supporting or managing project delivery across multiple sites or workstreams.
- Familiarity with engineering governance practices, including development and enforcement of technical standards and procedures.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of power quality, power factor correction, and solar PV/BESS/inverter integration principles, sufficient to direct and oversee technical resolution (hands-on field diagnostics not required).
- Provide engineering design input and technical oversight across active and upcoming projects, ensuring designs are technically sound, compliant, and fit for purpose.
