The Role

The Aga Khan University is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in Paediatrics and Child Health to join its Faculty of Health Sciences in Nairobi, Kenya. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, and service within the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of future healthcare leaders and advance the field of paediatric medicine in East Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and mentorship to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Paediatrics and Child Health.
  • Conduct innovative research and contribute to the scholarly output of the department and the university.
  • Provide clinical services and contribute to the patient care activities within the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review, ensuring alignment with international best practices.
  • Supervise postgraduate students' research projects and dissertations.
  • Contribute to the administrative and governance activities of the department and the faculty.
  • Engage in community outreach and service activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Medical Degree (MBChB or equivalent) registrable with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Paediatrics and Child Health (e.g., MMed, FC Paeds, FRCPCH or equivalent).
  • A PhD or equivalent research doctorate is highly desirable, especially for Associate Professor and Professor positions.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and mentorship at the university level.
  • A strong track record of research, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and grant acquisition.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage research projects.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Evidence of academic leadership and service to the profession.
  • For Senior Lecturer: Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in Paediatrics and Child Health, with at least 3 years of teaching experience.
  • For Associate Professor: Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in Paediatrics and Child Health, with at least 5 years of teaching experience and a significant publication record.
  • For Professor: Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in Paediatrics and Child Health, with at least 7 years of teaching experience, a distinguished publication record, and demonstrated academic leadership.
