About Turaco

It is existentially urgent to figure out a way to provide insurance for the mass market. Turaco’s mission is to free people from the fear of financial shocks. Our 25-year goal is to insure a billion people, doubling the number of people insured globally.

Turaco is a fast-growing financial services start-up in Africa that is bringing a new model to health and other risk financing for emerging customers. We are building subscription-based insurance products for the mass market bundled with regular transactions that people are already doing. Turaco works through partnerships to offer affordable insurance products that add real value to people’s lives. At Turaco we value simplicity, affordability, and transparency and strive to transform how insurance works. When it comes to claims, our goal is to pay out, and fast.

Since launching in Jan 2019, Turaco has acquired 1,000,000+ end users. We are growing very fast and looking for team members who can grow with us. To learn more, visit www.turaco.insure

About The Role

Turaco is looking for a Senior Regional Finance Lead to help shape how finance runs across the Group. You will report to the Group Financial Controller and work closely with the Group CFO. You will coordinate the regional finance team, lead group consolidation, treasury and tax, and own the finance function for a portfolio of markets.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who combines strong technical finance with a builder’s mindset. You will see the full picture across markets, raise the standard of the team around you, and drive change in how finance is done, building a function that is fast, accurate and ready to scale as the Group grows.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Regional Finance Leadership

  • Coordinate the Regional Finance Leads across our markets so every entity closes on time and to a consistent standard.
  • Set shared deadlines, quality standards and KPIs, and fix recurring issues at the process level rather than market by market.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for finance operations, reporting and controls for an assigned portfolio of markets, acting as the senior finance partner to those markets.
  • Coach and develop the Regional Finance Leads, including in automation and AI tools.

AI-first Finance & Automation

  • Own the execution of Turaco’s AI-first finance approach with the regional teams, driving full automation of manual, recurring processes so the team’s time goes to review, judgement and insight.
  • Contribute to shaping the wider finance strategy, including the rollout of our new finance system.

Group Consolidation, Reporting & Planning

  • Lead the monthly close and consolidation for the Group holding company, including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation.
  • Deliver management accounts, variance analysis and investor reporting that explain the business, not just the numbers.
  • Support year-end, audit and statutory accounts in line with IFRS and IFRS 17.
  • Run the annual group budget and reforecasts with country teams, and track performance against plan.

Treasury & Working Capital

  • Manage group cash flow reporting and forecasting, making sure capital and operating cash are deployed properly and adequately across entities, with funding needs identified well ahead of time.
  • Take ownership of payments, procurement and receivables across the Group, including partner premium collections.
  • Make sure cash moves efficiently, payment controls are strong and spend delivers value.

Tax, Controls & Audit

  • Manage tax matters across all jurisdictions with country teams and advisers, including the tax set-up of new entities as we expand.
  • Build controls into processes and systems rather than adding them on afterwards.
  • Coordinate with external auditors so the Group is audit-ready all year round.

Desired Skills And Experiences

  • Live Turaco’s values – care and protect our customers, do the right thing, low ego, and have fun
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, and CPA or ACCA qualification.
  • At least 7 years in finance, including Big 4 experience and leading teams or multi-country finance work.
  • Hands-on experience consolidating a multi-entity, multi-country group.
  • A good understanding of IFRS; insurance or IFRS 17 experience is an advantage.
  • An AI-first mindset: your instinct with any manual, recurring task is to automate it, using AI agents and tools first and keeping human effort for review, judgement and value-add.
  • Daily use of AI tools in your finance work, with automations you have delivered and the time and errors they removed.
  • A collaborative change leader who thrives alongside other high-performing finance leaders, brings fresh ideas and energy to an ambitious agenda, and helps new ways of working land across teams and markets.
  • Strong data skills and comfort working across finance systems and large data sets.
  • Experience in a tech or high-growth business, or a clear drive to work in one.
  • Integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver to tight deadlines.

Key Skills

  • IFRS and IFRS 17 financial reporting
  • Multi-entity consolidation, intercompany and foreign currency translation
  • Treasury, liquidity and capital allocation
  • Working capital optimisation
  • Financial planning and analysis
  • Cross-border tax compliance and structuring
  • Process mapping and redesign
  • Workflow automation and AI agent design
  • Effective use of AI tools for analysis and reporting
  • Data analysis and visualisation
  • Internal controls design
  • Negotiation and bargaining
  • Stakeholder management
