Duties and Responsibilities
Reports to the Chief Officers Department of Health Services and will be deployed to perform the following duties: –
- Leading and mentoring junior nurse anesthetists, providing expert guidance on patient care, technical skills, and decision-making processes.
- Conducting complex pre-anesthetic evaluations, assessing medical histories and medications, and developing tailored anesthetic plans for high-risk patients.
- Proficiently administering general, regional, and local anesthesia, ensuring precise control of anesthetic depth, pain management, and patient comfort.
- Diligently monitoring vital signs, fluid balance, and blood loss, adjusting anesthetic care as needed to maintain patient stability.
- Acting as the primary expert in managing patient airways, performing difficult intubations, and handling critical airway complications.
- Providing support and care into the recovery phase, and managing critical situations such as resuscitation, transport, and life support for trauma patients.
- Effectively communicating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Skills and Qualities
- The ability to analyze complex situations, identify risks, and make sound, critical decisions under pressure.
- Mastery of advanced technical skills, such as placing IVs, arterial lines, epidurals, and spinals.
- A deep understanding of human anatomy, bodily systems, and anesthetic agents is crucial for safe practice.
- The physical ability to handle the demands of the job, as well as the mental focus required to perform under stress.
Requirements for Appointment
- Served for a period of three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Registered Nurse I or in a comparable position in the Public or Private Sector.
- Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Registered Nurse Anesthesia from a recognized Institution.
- Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Valid Practicing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
