Background

Shamiri Fellows are recent high-school graduates trained to deliver the 4-week Shamiri intervention without prior formal health training as part of the Shamiri Program. Fellows receive ten hours of training and weekly supervision from Shamiri Clinical Supervisors. They lead group-based intervention sessions with high school students within the schools.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Delivering intervention activities by facilitating group sessions.
  • Referring students in need of psychosocial support to Shamiri Supervisors.
  • Observing punctuality on all matters that concern the Shamiri program.
  • Attending supervision meetings as communicated.
  • Recording group sessions of attendance.
  • Reporting to the supervisors any information necessary promptly.
  • Acting, with supervision, to help ensure participant confidentiality, health, and safety.
  • Supporting data collection during group sessions to help ensure accurate participant information.

Requirements

  • Must have attained at least a Grade C- in KCSE, or an equivalent qualification in GCSE, AS-level, etc.
  • Must be between 18 and 24 years of age at the time of application.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (e.g., Google Docs, Forms, Calendar) or other basic digital tools.
  • Own or have access to a phone that can access the internet.
  • Experience facilitating or supporting group activities, especially with adolescents or in school settings, is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn from mistakes and use feedback for personal and professional growth.
  • A genuine interest in helping others, particularly adolescents, with a strong commitment to confidentiality, fairness, and emotional safety.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Shamiri Institute.
  • Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail in facilitation and reporting tasks.
  • Basic knowledge or interest in mental health, wellness, or life skills education.
