Good Neighbors Kenya was established in 1995. We undertake CDPs (Community Development Projects) aimed at empowering community members for self-reliance by targeting individual children and the community as a whole. We target the vulnerable and marginalized community members both in the urban and rural parts of the country with a key focus in improving access to quality education. On the other hand, we focus on empowering the parents through Income Generation for self-reliance and in order to meet their needs for a sustainable community.
Responsibilities or duties
The Interns will work closely with the Social Economy Department (SED) and support in:
- Work Planning: Participate in planning and supporting the implementation of incomegenerating and livelihood projects, including market-based initiatives, cooperative development, youth and women economic empowerment activities.
- Understanding of Local Community: Understand the specific economic needs, opportunities, and challenges of the communities served and support the SED team in tailoring incomegenerating activities to the local cultural, social, and economic context.
- Community Outreach: Support community sensitization on economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, savings, cooperative development, and sustainable livelihoods, and promote community participation in KGN income-generation programs.
- Data Collection and Filing: Ensure accurate data collection, proper filing, and record-keeping for all income-generating activities, including beneficiary lists, attendance registers, training reports, financial support documents, and project progress records are in line with KGN filing systems.
- Collaboration: Work closely with all departments to ensure income generation and SED goals are effectively achieved.
- Compliance: Ensure all work and activities comply with KGN internal policies, donor requirements, and local regulations.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher-level diploma in Community Development, Economics, Development Studies, Project Management, Social Sciences, or related courses.
- Good understanding of transparency, accountability, and professionalism in development work.
- Strong passion and commitment to serving vulnerable and marginalized communities.
- Basic skills in work planning, reporting, documentation, and filing systems.
- Strong sense of time and ability to meet deadlines.
- Result oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and quality of work.
- High sense of responsibility and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to cooperate effectively with diverse departments and workforce.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain effective relationships with community members, partners, and local stakeholders
- Excellent in English, both oral and written.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office software and office equipment, such as computers and printers
