ROLE SUMMARY
The sr. financial analyst plays a critical role in evaluating, supporting and scaling high-potential ventures across Africa. This role sits at the core of Renew Capital’s investment process, supporting sourcing, due diligence, investment decision-making and portfolio value creation.
The sr. financial analyst will work closely with investment managers, portfolio company CFOs and senior leadership, building rigorous financial models and translating complex data into clear insights that inform investment decisions.
Responsibilities:
The sr. financial analyst’s responsibilities are focused on three core areas:
Investment Analysis & Due Diligence
- Prepare and maintain robust financial models for pipeline and prospective investment opportunities.
- Analyze historical financial data, forecasts and assumptions to assess risk, return, and scalability.
- Evaluate capital expenditures, depreciation schedules, and capital structuring scenarios.
- Conduct market sizing, competitive analysis and primary and secondary research to support investment theses.
- Support financial and commercial due diligence processes from initial screening through investment committee review.
Portfolio Support & Monitoring
- Work directly with portfolio company finance teams on budgeting, 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts and financial controls.
- Monitor portfolio company performance, identify trends, calculate key ratios and flag risks or opportunities early.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with portfolio CFOs and founders.
Communication & Insight Generation
- Translate complex analysis into clear, decision-ready materials for investment managers, leadership and the investment committee.
- Prepare presentations, memos and dashboards that communicate insights concisely.
- Collaborate with a diverse, distributed investment team across Africa using digital tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business or a related field; MBA or Master’s in Finance preferred.
- 6–8+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, investment analysis, private equity, venture capital, investment banking or corporate finance, with exposure to growth-stage companies.
- Advanced financial modeling expertise, including integrated three-statement models, valuation, scenario and sensitivity analysis and capital structuring.
- Strong experience supporting or leading financial and commercial due diligence processes.
- Proven ability to translate complex financial analysis into clear, decision-ready insights for senior leadership and investment committees.
- Excellent Excel and financial analysis skills, with experience working with large, complex data sets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with investment teams, portfolio company CFOs and founders across diverse markets.
- CFA or other recognized investment or financial modeling credentials preferred.
