Background information about the job or company

Kenyatta National Hospital in collaboration with Global HOPE- Texas Children Hospital is seeking to fill the following position in the project “Global HOPE/ KNH project”

Position: Study Nurse (1 position)

Reporting to: Program Lead

Location: Nairobi

Job Term: part-time; 6-months

Job Purpose

The study nurse will be responsible for conducting study activities for the Global Hope/KNH Project in Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi County. He/she will directly report to the Program Lead.

  • Discuss study procedures and conduct screening with facility clients to assess interest in and eligibility for participation in the research project.
  • Perform the informed consent processes, obtain written and/or verbal consent for research procedures and document the consent process as needed.
  • Input/Record data per approved Standard Operating Procedures in an electronic database using tablets; communicate with data manager to transfer records and maintain devices.
  • Conduct the required project procedures as stipulated in the project protocol
  • Maintain proper communication between program site, program coordinator and Program Lead.
  • Maintain adequate supplies at the program sites (for example, study forms)
  • Submit daily summary of program progress to the program coordinator, and Program lead and suggest any improvements to the program procedures as appropriate
  • Ensure strict compliance with ethical requirements for conduct of research, privacy and confidentiality of study participants and their data.
  • Submit summaries of recruitment and enrolment to the Program lead.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Program Lead and/or Program coordinator to discuss program progress and activities.
  • Provide support for non-research activities at the facility.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Any other duties that may be allocated by the Program.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: Must be able to communicate to the study participants well and with Project Lead via email and Skype.
  • Team player with ability to work closely with other study staff at the site.
  • Flexibility in the job location and start period.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be knowledgeable in patient’s navigation.
  • Must be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Must have minimum a Diploma in Nursing.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience working as a nurse.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ research experience
  • Must have experience in REDCAP/ODK
  • Must be trained in Human Subjects protection /Good Clinical Practice
