Ladies and Indian Outfit Tailor – Job Description

A Ladies and Indian Outfit Tailor is responsible for designing, stitching, altering, fitting, and repairing women’s garments and traditional Indian outfits according to customer requirements, measurements, and fashion trends. The tailor ensures all garments are completed professionally, fit perfectly, and meet high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take accurate body measurements for clients.
  • Design, cut, stitch, and finish ladies’ garments and Indian outfits.
  • Create garments such as dresses, skirts, blouses, gowns, abayas, tops, saree blouses, kurtis, salwar suits, lehengas, anarkalis, churidars, and bridal wear.
  • Perform fittings and make necessary alterations for proper fitting and comfort.
  • Repair and modify existing garments as requested by customers.
  • Work with different fabrics including silk, chiffon, cotton, satin, velvet, georgette, and embroidered materials.
  • Handle decorative work such as embroidery, beadwork, pleating, hemming, and lining.
  • Advise customers on suitable styles, fabrics, colors, and designs based on body type and preferences.
  • Operate sewing machines, cutting tools, pressing equipment, and other tailoring machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure garments are completed within agreed timelines while maintaining quality workmanship.
  • Inspect finished garments before delivery to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the tailoring workshop.
  • Keep records of customer measurements, orders, and fabric usage.
  • Assist with inventory management of fabrics and tailoring materials.
  • Stay updated on modern fashion trends and traditional Indian clothing styles.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven tailoring experience in ladies’ wear and Indian outfits.
  • Strong sewing, cutting, fitting, and garment construction skills.
  • Good knowledge of fabrics, patterns, and fashion trends.
  • Excellent attention to detail and creativity.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Knowledge of embroidery and decorative finishing techniques is an added advantage.

Education and Experience

  • Certificate or training in tailoring, fashion design, or garment construction is preferred.
  • Previous experience in ladies’ and Indian outfit tailoring is an advantage.

Working Conditions

  • Work may be carried out in tailoring shops, boutiques, fashion houses, or clothing production workshops.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and handling tailoring equipment daily
