Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and operationalise NLERS coordination mechanisms in collaboration with the State Department of Forestry (SDF) to strengthen institutional collaboration for strategy implementation.
Develop and institutionalise an NLERS Coordination Framework outlining roles, responsibilities, engagement pathways, and governance structures among national ministries, agencies, and county governments.
Prepare a Delivery Action Plan and Progress Tracking Matrix with milestones, timelines, and accountability indicators to guide coordinated NLERS delivery.
Support alignment of restoration interventions across key agencies (KFS, KEFRI, NEMA, KWS, NLC, county governments) under a unified NLERS coordination platform.
Provide technical support for NLERS governance structures, including the Steering Committee and Thematic Working Groups, through development of Terms of Reference, meeting schedules, and progress documentation.
Integrate restoration monitoring data, indicators, and reporting processes into national systems, such as the National Forest Monitoring System (NFMS), carbon MRV tools, and FOLAREP, to ensure standardized data management and reporting.
Facilitate stakeholder engagement and inter-agency dialogue to enhance coordination, reduce duplication, and promote shared ownership of NLERS implementation.
Support preparation of restoration progress reports and policy briefs that synthesize achievements, lessons, and opportunities for scale-up.
Build institutional and technical capacity of SDF teams to manage coordination systems, conduct results tracking, and engage effectively with development partners.
Required Qualifications:
Academic Competencies
Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field: This could include Environmental Management, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Climate Change, Ecology, Environmental Policy, or a related discipline.
Specialized training or certification: Additional certifications in landscape restoration, climate governance, institutional development, or results-based management would be an added advantage.
General Experience
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience: This should be in fields related to forestry, ecosystem restoration, environmental governance, or sustainable land management.
Proven capability in leadership: Experience working with government institutions in similar advisory or coordination roles, including facilitation of inter-agency and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Extensive sectoral and/or regional expertise: Strong understanding of Kenya’s forest and landscape restoration agenda, policy environment, and institutional architecture, particularly in the context of NLERS or similar national frameworks.
