Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
Main purpose of job:
Responsible for scheduling and execution of the plumbing works across the British High Commission Estates. To safely perform, Plumbing & Water Systems: Planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, design, construction and inspection & test to; plant, equipment & installations across the British High Commission estate in and around Nairobi in accordance with Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) guidance.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Plumbing Works
• Carry out planned maintenance activities, projects, refurbishments and react to Plumbing & Water Systems breakdowns or faults in a timely, professional & customer focused manner.
• Execute repairs and works safely and in accordance with the quality standards of the FCO, industry best practice, British standards and Kenyan regulations & requirements where applicable to domestic / housing Plumbing & Water Systems and light industrial / commercial plant and equipment.
• Take ownership of Plumbing & Water Systems projects, repairs and renewals, producing technical reports, accurate time frames for completion of works, outlining all resources required, start date, end date, project milestones and dependencies.
• Plan for Plumbing & Water Systems maintenance methods including design, installation, inspection & test.
• Actively contribute to safe working practices and ensure all work is undertaken safely by self and others
• Identify materials required and create work package(s) for refurbishment, improvement, and renewal to ensure the Plumbing & Water Systems installation meets the compliance standards of the FCO, Kenyan regulations & requirements where applicable and any other relevant standard(s).
• Produce comprehensive list of plumbing materials to be used in the estate.
• Demonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of work to achieve best value for money, safety compliance and standards of build.
• Routine maintenance, design for small projects, construction, test & inspection, undertaking full building Plumbing & Water Systems renewals (including Potable, Grey & Foul / Sewerage), fault finding, repairs to installations, fitting accessories, modification, repairs and replacement of Plumbing & Water System components in commercial buildings and special locations (swimming pools etc.) Working at height and outside work may be required on occasion including on high risk plant (e.g. Sewerage Plant).
Scheduling
• Setting a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme with the plumbing team and execute annual maintenance to ensure the upkeep of the British High Commission estate
• Provide clear guidance and demonstrate best practice in work to the other plumbers
• First point of contact for complaint resolution and updating with the customer through the Corporate Services Helpdesk (CSHelpdesk) for Plumbing Requests
• Coordinate with the TWG Admin Officer on job allocations to the Plumbing Team
Continuous Improvement
• Conduct market research on new products and techiniques for plumbing team
• Work with suppliers on product quality and usage to ensure correct application is practiced in the teams work
Line Management:
• Set direction for the team and plan out work assignments to team members
• Support team members in skill development
• Coordinate monthly team and individual meetings to track progress against set objectives
• Directly line manage 5 Plumbers

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
• Plumbing & Water Systems; Fault finding, construction & installation methods (Commercial & Domestic), Risk assessment, creating Method Statements
• Can demonstrate over Six years of hands on Plumbing & Water Systems work experience
• Experience in leading a team (highly desirable)
• IT / Computer literate
• Holder of Valid Driving Licence
• Proficient in English

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
• Apprentice trained Plumber / Technician
• Able to Multi-Skill
• Good communication skills, attention to detail and initiative, as well as good customer service skills
• A flexible approach and good team working skills

In addition to annual leave, the BHC normally observes no fewer than 9 and no more than 14 Kenyan and British public and religious holidays in a year. These vary from year to year and are at the discretion of the High Commissioner. A list of holidays is published each year.
