TUTORIAL FELLOW

Reporting to the Chairperson, the job holder will support the Department by performing the following tasks:

  • Teaching both Diploma and undergraduate students
  • Setting, marking, and processing results for units offered to diploma and undergraduate students.
  • Supervising and marking research projects for diploma programmes.
  • Supporting departmental work, such as working with senior colleagues and professors in research projects.
  • Supporting the departmental examination coordinators in the smooth running of the examination offices.
  • Any other work that will help the department achieve its strategic objectives by serving on the Departmental committee.
  • Any other work that may be assigned by the Head of the department.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Sociology and/or Gender and Development Studies from a recognized institution.
  • Teaching experience at the university level will be an added advantage.
  • Applicants must be prepared to pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology and/or Gender and Development Studies.
  • Registered or willing to pursue a PhD Degree in Sociology or Gender and Development Studies will be an added advantage

Skills required for the Job:

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Self-driven and willing to support the departmental academic objectives
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to scholarship by collaborating with scholars and members of academic staff at the Department and the University.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills to work with staff and students.
  • Have a strong appetite for innovation and creativity to develop solutions to the attendant social issues that affect society.

Other Special Requirements:

  • Commitment to complete their doctoral studies within the stipulated time of three (3) years.

A competitive remuneration package, which includes basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover as per the University Scheme, will be provided. Tutorial Fellows are employed on one (1) year renewable contract up to a maximum of three (3) years.
