This position is responsible for ensuring safe, sustainable, efficient, effective operation and maintenance of utility equipment, machines, and plants, while achieving high reliability and complying with statutory regulations.

Main Responsibilities

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Ensure the efficient and effective operation of all utility machines and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks and preventive maintenance to prevent equipment breakdowns.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues promptly

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory standards while operating and maintaining utility machines.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Keep up-to-date with safety regulations and ensure compliance in all activities.

System Monitoring and Optimization

  • Monitor utility systems and equipment to ensure they are operating within specified parameters.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize system performance and energy efficiency.
  • Implement measures to enhance the reliability and sustainability of utility operations.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Prepare regular reports on utility operations, highlighting any issues and improvements made.
  • Ensure all documentation is organized and accessible for compliance and future reference.

TPM and Continuous Improvement

  • Support the TPM way of working.
  • Support the implementation of the improvement activities.

Minimum Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Academic Qualifications

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering

Professional Qualifications

  • A certified Boiler operator and technician certificate is an added advantage.

Experience 

  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a production setting in a similar organisation.
  • Working technical knowledge on basic machine operations and maintenance is an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in use of MS packages.

  • Knowledge and skills in conducting preventive maintenance tasks, including routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments to maintain the optimal functioning of utility machines
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues with utility machines, using diagnostic tools and techniques to resolve problems quickly and effectively
  • Expertise in monitoring utility systems and equipment through control systems and meters to ensure they are operating within specified parameters and identifying any anomalies.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety standards and regulations related to the operation and maintenance of utility machines, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and comprehensive records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance for future reference and compliance purposes.
  • Preparedness to respond to emergency situations, such as equipment failures or safety hazards, with appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure safety.
