Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a WTP Operator‑in‑Training (OIT) to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.

Responsibilities or duties

The WTP Operator‑in‑Training (OIT) supports the operation and maintenance of Water Treatment Plant (WTP) systems in accordance with Navy utility operations standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include assisting certified operators with daily operation, monitoring, and control of water treatment processes to ensure the production of safe, potable water.

The OIT performs routine inspections, collects water samples, conducts basic testing, and records operational data under supervision. This role includes learning treatment processes such as filtration, disinfection, chemical dosing, and system monitoring while adhering to established safety and environmental procedures.

Additional duties include assisting with preventive maintenance activities, maintaining cleanliness of treatment facilities, responding to alarms or abnormal conditions as directed, and supporting inspections and audits. The WTP Operator‑in‑Training gains hands‑on experience while supporting mission‑critical water utility operations in a remote, mission‑driven environment.

Qualifications or requirements

1–3 years of experience in utilities, water treatment support, industrial operations, or related field

High school diploma or equivalent

Basic understanding of water treatment principles, mechanical systems, or utility operations

Ability to follow technical instructions, procedures, and safety protocols

Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, or on‑call schedules as required

Must be in possession of a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally.

Passport should be valid for a minimum of 1 plus years at the time of hiring.

Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.

Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.

Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.

Valid country driver's license

Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
