About This Role
The Project Assistant will support the implementation of an integrated livelihoods and social protection pilot project in Busia and Kisumu Counties, aimed at improving the wellbeing of vulnerable households in the rural and informal economy. Working in close collaboration with ChildFund Kenya, FAO-Kenya, government agencies, and community stakeholders, the Project Assistant will coordinate field activities, facilitate community engagements, and support the delivery of bundled services. These include capacity building on value chains, voluntary savings and loan associations (VSLAs), entrepreneurship, and climate-smart agriculture. The role will also involve strengthening linkages with agricultural extension services, civil society organizations, and social protection service providers. The Project Assistant will contribute to the establishment and growth of local enterprises, support skills development training, and assist in the registration of households for social protection programs. Key responsibilities include logistical coordination, data collection, documentation, and reporting to ensure effective implementation of value chain development and community-focused interventions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient service delivery, reducing transaction costs for beneficiaries, and enhancing the resilience and livelihoods of smallholder families.

Required Experience and Education
Diploma in Community Development, Social Sciences, Agriculture, or related field.
At least 2 years of experience in project implementation, preferably in livelihoods, social protection, or community development.

Primary Responsibilities
Project Implementation and Management
Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of project activities at the community level.
Support the establishment and operation of community integration points for service delivery.
Facilitate community mobilization and engagement with local stakeholders, including government and civil society partners.
Support the coordination of capacity building and training sessions, market linkage activities, and value chain development initiatives.
Ensure that gender, environmental sustainability, and child protection considerations are integrated into all project activities.
Support establishment and/or strengthening of VSLAs and Value chain enterprises for improved household incomes
Ensure the establishment and maintenance of standard kitchen gardens in identified sites while promoting climate smart innovative practices.
Coordinate delivery of financial literacy trainings and market linkages to project participants for sustainable development.
Provide technical, administrative & logistical support for the project’s implementation and ensure that the activities are implemented on time and according to the project design as provided in the proposal.
Knowledge Management & Learning
Participate in and provide technical support in the development of Project related TORs, data tools review for assessments, evaluations, baseline, and other related studies.
Collect and manage project data, maintain accurate records, and support monitoring and evaluation efforts.
Participate in project planning, periodic reviews, learning fora and evaluation meetings
Continuously identify and document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices from the project.
Develop high quality results-based project reports (monthly, quarterly, annually and end of project) with clear data on the progress, successes, challenges, and impact of the project activities as well as other reports such as handover notes, field visit reports.
Ensure that the project related documents are regularly updated on the document management systems such as SharePoint.
Ensure timely submission of consolidated donor reports to the line Manager for review and sharing with the donor (FAO).
Organize and facilitate regular learning and sharing sessions with stakeholders.
Project Coordination and Representation
Participate in the related sector forums, networks, and other coordination meetings at the project counties.
Represent the organization in different fora in the assigned counties and sub-counties.
Liaise with local authorities, partners, and stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration during project delivery.
Child Safeguarding:
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy
Ensure accountability and transparency in the delivery of the project by observing compliance standards and ensuring robust complaint and feedback channels by the project participants and partners.
Integrate and Mainstream Gender, Child protection and safeguarding measures into the project.
Any other duties as allocated by the supervisor.
