Background

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) was established by the Government of Kenya on the 14th of January 2013 under an Act of Parliament-Act No.4 of 2013, to provide research based curricula and curriculum support materials responsive to the needs of the society.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the planning and implementation of the Institute’s electronic, electrical and other technical programmes and projects, including preparation of technical specifications and cost estimates.

Provide technical evaluation and professional advice on proposed projects, equipment and systems to inform procurement, installation and investment decisions.

Supervise the acquisition, installation, commissioning and final acceptance of technical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with approved specifications and quality standards.

Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of the Institute’s technical equipment and systems to ensure reliability, safety and operational continuity.

Ensure proper management, storage, security, inventory and utilisation of technical hardware, software and related resources.

Supervise technical staff and contractors undertaking technical projects, maintenance and related services, and ensure compliance with professional and safety standards.

Monitor technical projects, equipment and systems, identify risks and operational challenges, and recommend appropriate corrective and improvement measures.

Prepare technical reports and provide advice to Management on technical requirements, emerging technologies and infrastructure needs.

Ensure compliance with applicable technical, safety, environmental, procurement and other statutory requirements in the management of technical services.

Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the Institute’s mandate.

Qualifications and Experience

Cumulative twelve (12) years’, three (3) of which should be at Principal Engineer/Technologist KICD Grade 5 or comparable position;

Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering/technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering/technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;

Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;

Computer literacy;

Demonstrated managerial, administrative, and professional competence in work performance and results; and

Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of Constitution
