Role Summary:

The Assistant Manager – Finance will support the Finance Manager in overseeing daily financial operations, ensuring internal controls, and driving timely month-end/year-end closing processes. Responsibilities include financial reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and supporting decision-making through financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead month-end close processes, including accurate journal entries (accruals, provisions, adjustments).
  • Review trial balances, ensure ledger completeness, and prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Coordinate reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts (bank, inventory, receivables, payables, payroll, intercompany).
  • Review production variances, COGS analysis, and cost allocations to cost centres.
  • Oversee year-end audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Supervise day-to-day accounting operations (AR, AP, payroll, inventory, fixed assets).
  • Ensure accurate SAP/ERP transactions and documentation alignment.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts (weekly/monthly) and liquidity reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax laws (VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax, Excise, WHT, SHIF/NSSF).
  • Implement internal controls for revenue, expenditure, inventory, and capital projects.
  • Support policy development, SOPs, and accounting manuals.
  • Collaborate with operations teams (plant, procurement, HR) for finance-business alignment.
  • Supervise junior accountants, review their work, and ensure deadline adherence.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance; CPA(K), ACCA, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory role (manufacturing environment preferred).
  • Strong ERP knowledge (SAP Business One advantageous).
  • In-depth understanding of Kenyan tax laws, IFRS, and corporate governance.
  • Solid grasp of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Business acumen and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and proactive approach.
