Sheer Logic Management Consultants (SLMC) was incorporated in 1997 as a limited liability company whose overall aim is to provide Human Resource consultancy and training services to a diverse set of industries and economic sectors; both private and public.

Role Overview

Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the monitoring and technical assessment of construction and building-finance projects. The role will be responsible for reviewing project documentation, validating costs and Bills of Quantities, conducting site inspections, monitoring construction progress, and providing technical input to support effective risk management and commercial control of building loans.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate Bills of Quantities, architectural and structural drawings, construction contracts and other project documentation.
  • Undertake cost assessments and verify project costs against approved budgets and scope.
  • Monitor construction projects from commencement to completion and assess progress against approved programmes and schedules.
  • Conduct periodic construction site inspections and prepare detailed site-visit and project monitoring reports.
  • Assess the physical progress of works against funds disbursed and approved project budgets.
  • Liaise with Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Engineers, Project Managers, Contractors and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Review technical information and documentation submitted in support of construction financing applications.
  • Identify and escalate material cost variations, delays, irregularities, or other project risks that may affect the financial position of the project.
  • Monitor compliance with approved project conditions, covenants and other technical requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project monitoring records, reports and documentation.
  • Prepare periodic reports highlighting project progress, cost movements, risks and other agreed performance indicators.
  • Coordinate monthly project and transaction status reports for management.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external professional service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognised institution.
  • Professional qualification or progress towards professional registration with the relevant Quantity Surveying professional body will be an added advantage.
  • Membership of a recognised professional body in Quantity Surveying will be an advantage.
  • Additional training in construction project management, cost management, property development or financial/project risk assessment would be desirable.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with construction measurement, costing and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, Bills of Quantities, project costing and construction monitoring processes.
  • 3–5 years’ relevant experience in Quantity Surveying, construction cost management, project monitoring or a related environment.
  • Experience in building finance, property development, construction lending, project monitoring or financial institution environments will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting construction site inspections and preparing technical/project monitoring reports.
  • Experience reviewing construction documentation, assessing project costs and monitoring progress against approved budgets and programmes.
