Job objective:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Avocado Manager will be responsible for leading and managing all avocado packhouse operations, ensuring efficient production, superior product quality, compliance with international food safety and export standards, and optimal utilization of people, equipment, and resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the avocado packhouse, including receiving, grading, sorting, packing, storage, and dispatch.
- Plan and coordinate daily production activities based on harvest forecasts and customer orders.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, export quality requirements, and food safety standards including GlobalG.A.P., HACCP, BRCGS, and SMETA.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives to minimize fruit losses and maintain high product standards.
- Oversee production planning, inventory control, cold room management, and packaging material utilization.
- Supervise, coach, and develop packhouse supervisors and operational teams to achieve high performance.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and ensure maximum equipment uptime.
- Drive operational efficiency, cost control, waste reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Prepare and analyze operational and performance reports to support informed decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Food Science, Agribusiness, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification in HACCP, BRCGS, Global G.A.P., or Food Safety (added advantage).
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in fresh produce packhouse operations.
- At least three (3) years' experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Proven experience managing export avocado operations and large operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of export quality standards, post-harvest handling, food safety systems, inventory management, cold chain management, and production planning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ERP or packhouse management systems.
