Our client in the healthcare and retail pharmacy sector is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Cashier to join their team at a busy pharmacy location in Westlands. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate transaction processing, maintain a clean and organized checkout area, and support the pharmacy’s commitment to excellent customer service

Job descriptions & requirements

Job Title: Cashier

Location: Westlands

Reporting to: Pharmacy Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process customer purchases accurately using the pharmacy’s point-of-sale (POS) system, including cash, credit/debit cards, and mobile money transactions.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, change, or credit slips as required, following company policies.
  • Verify the prices of pharmaceutical and retail products, including over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, personal care items, and other pharmacy goods.
  • Maintain a balanced cash drawer at the start and end of each shift, reporting any discrepancies to management immediately.
  • Assist customers with general inquiries about store layout, product locations, and basic pharmacy services (without offering medical advice).
  • Collaborate with pharmacy staff to ensure smooth customer flow, especially during busy hours or prescription pickups.
  • Follow strict confidentiality and data protection guidelines regarding patient and customer information.
  • Keep the checkout area clean, stocked with bags, receipt paper, and other necessary supplies.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations relevant to a pharmacy environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 1 year of cashier or customer service experience, preferably in a retail or healthcare setting.
  • Basic math skills and familiarity with POS systems and electronic payment methods.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling cash.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient during peak hours.
  • Trustworthy, with a high level of integrity and honesty.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili; additional languages are a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position, including weekday, weekend, and public holiday shifts as per roster.
  • Standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 5–10 kg.
