Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Head of the University Health Centre, the Clinical Officer will manage the outpatient medical workflow at the Thika Campus. This critical role involves diagnosing and treating standard ailments, administering preventive healthcare counseling, performing minor clinical interventions, and supervising junior medical staff to safeguard student and faculty welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Consultations: Examine, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic illnesses among students, staff, and university clients visiting the clinic.
  • Medical Procedures: Perform routine minor surgical procedures safely in strict compliance with standard clinical skills and medical guidelines.
  • Patient Counseling & Advocacy: Guide, counsel, and sensitize patients on critical health issues, wellness management, and preventive medicine frameworks.
  • Data Management: Accurately collect, monitor, and compile institutional clinical data to assist in public health tracking and reporting.
  • Referral Coordination: Filter, stabilize, and safely refer complex medical cases to advanced external health facilities when necessary.
  • Team Supervision: Oversee and guide junior healthcare workers to maintain maximum operational efficiency at the university health facility.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or a related healthcare specialization from a recognized institution.
  • Licensing: Fully registered and licensed as a Clinical Officer by the Clinical Officers Council (COC) of Kenya with a valid practicing license.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of active, hands-on clinical experience working in a comparable position or busy outpatient medical ecosystem.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient computer literacy with experience navigating modern electronic medical records (EMR) software.
  • Core Competencies: Visionary mindset, impeccable professional track record, excellent triage assessment skills, and strong collaborative leadership.
