Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the External Relations, Strategy and Innovation Division, Innovation Section, and in close collaboration with the Chief of Communication, the intern will:
  • Support the Chief of Communication in reviewing, recording, distributing, and/or processing correspondence and other documents, including e-mails and hard copies; follow up on pending actions as required.
  • Assist in monitoring processes and schedules related to the Chief of Communication’s work plan and calendar; verify receipt, accuracy, and completion of requisite documents and approvals.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to meetings, boards, committees, and conferences; assist in the planning and organization of meetings and presentations.
  • Draft responses to routine correspondence and other communications as requested.
  • Take minutes of meetings, boards, or committees as assigned.
  • Support the preparation of presentations, briefing notes, and talking points for the Chief of Communication; producing copies of documents or materials as requested.
  • Assist in the preparation of social media post drafts and related materials in collaboration with the social media and production team. • Contribute to content and editorial work by clarifying and verifying information as requested.
  • Provide support to the team and section coordinator in administrative tasks, coordination of workflows, and production of materials in line with the editorial calendar.
  • Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by the supervisor or the team.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
  • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Preferred areas of study: Applicants must have studies in a relevant field of study in languages, journalism, marketing or communications. Students of international relations or related fields may also be considered for this internship.
  • Strong drafting skills in English. Proficiency in other official UN languages is preferred. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
