Position Summary

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Consultant Medical Oncologist will provide specialist oncology consultations, support diagnosis and management of cancer patients, participate in multidisciplinary team discussions, and contribute to structured oncology care pathways.

The role requires strong clinical competence, collaborative practice, patient-centred communication, and the ability to work flexibly across private clinic and hospital systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Care

Provide outpatient and inpatient medical oncology consultations and support diagnosis and management of solid and hematologic malignancies.

Oncology Treatment Planning

Deliver systemic anti-cancer therapy including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormonal therapy in line with evidence-based treatment standards.

Multidisciplinary Care

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, tumour boards, and coordinated patient management discussions.

Palliative & Supportive Care

Provide palliative oncology input and supportive care planning for patients requiring holistic cancer care support.

Clinical Collaboration

Work closely with surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nursing teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.

Quality & Governance

Maintain accurate clinical documentation and oncology records, participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and adhere to institutional policies and KMPDC regulatory standards.

Academic & Research Contribution

Participate in academic research, grant applications, case discussions, academic tumour boards, clinical research, and data collection initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by KMPDC.

Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine plus formal Fellowship in Medical Oncology or equivalent specialist qualification.

Fully registered and licensed as a Specialist Medical Practitioner by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).

Minimum 3–5 years’ progressive post-specialist experience practicing as a Medical Oncologist within a busy tertiary hospital or dedicated private diagnostic oncology system.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong clinical competence in oncology.

Excellent patient-centred communication and counselling skills.

Strong multidisciplinary team collaboration skills.

Ability to work flexibly across hospital and private clinic systems.

Strong clinical judgement, professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practice.

Commitment to evidence-based oncology care and continuous clinical improvement.

Engagement Options

Fee-for-service or consultant model, subject to discussion.

Fixed clinic days per week may apply.
