Entry Requirements:
An officer at this level shall report to Senior Manager, Corporate Services
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulate Kenya Forest Service Communication policy.
- Propose the implementation of new media technology policy.
- Design and implement customer service relations policy.
- Develop media relations policy.
- Develop KFS Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
- Design Kenya forest service corporate communication strategy.
- Provide editorial leadership for the Kenya Forest Service.
- Supervise production of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials e.g. newsletters.
- Direct formulation and implementation of marketing and advertising campaigns.
- Build and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Advising Management on Public Communication policies and strategies.
- Providing oversight role in the Service brand image and positioning, tracking and measuring its performance to inform future activities
- Ensuring effectiveness of Public Relations and Communications programs including identifying appropriate metrics to track performance
- Developing and managing appropriate channels and partners to meet changing stakeholders’ needs and business goals
- Oversight role in public communication to ensure effective messaging that is well understood by specific target audiences.
- Oversee media engagement to ensure proper coverage of the Service role and functions
- Advise the Service on corporate branding through mass media advertising, outdoor displays and Information, Education & Communication (IEC) materials.
- Overseeing Audio and video production and dissemination of information through documentaries, radio programs and social media.
- Directing production of various publications including photography, drafting articles, design & layout of newsletters, books, and other printed literature in liaison with other directorates/departments.
- Promoting long term engagement of stakeholders in tree growing and forest conservation through facilitating appropriate Communication channels.
- Promote public values and principles
- Mentoring and coaching
- Responsible for resource mobilization for the Department
Additional Information:
Person specification
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Journalism, International Relations or other related fields of study from a recognized institution
- Master’s degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Journalism, International Relations or another relevant course from a recognized institution
- Management course of not less than four (4) Course weeks.
- Ten (10) years relevant work experience out of which 3 years should be at the level of Principal Communications Officer/management or its equivalent
- Management course of not less than four (4) weeks.
- Member of professional body –PRSK
- Proficiency in Computer applications
Key Competencies and skills
- Conversant with the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
- Member of a professional association such as PRSK
- Good oral and written communication skills in Kiswahili and English
- Good analytical skills
- Skills in resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement
- Experience in policy formulation
- Team player
