Entry Requirements:

An officer at this level shall report to Senior Manager, Corporate Services

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Formulate Kenya Forest Service Communication policy.
  2. Propose the implementation of new media technology policy.
  3. Design and implement customer service relations policy.
  4. Develop media relations policy.
  5. Develop KFS Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
  6. Design Kenya forest service corporate communication strategy.
  7. Provide editorial leadership for the Kenya Forest Service.
  8. Supervise production of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials e.g. newsletters.
  9. Direct formulation and implementation of marketing and advertising campaigns.
  10. Build and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  11. Advising Management on Public Communication policies and strategies.
  12. Providing oversight role in the Service brand image and positioning, tracking and measuring its performance to inform future activities
  13. Ensuring effectiveness of Public Relations and Communications programs including identifying appropriate metrics to track performance
  14. Developing and managing appropriate channels and partners to meet changing stakeholders’ needs and business goals
  15. Oversight role in public communication to ensure effective messaging that is well understood by specific target audiences.
  16. Oversee media engagement to ensure proper coverage of the Service role and functions
  17. Advise the Service on corporate branding through mass media advertising, outdoor displays and Information, Education & Communication (IEC) materials.
  18. Overseeing Audio and video production and dissemination of information through documentaries, radio programs and social media.
  19. Directing production of various publications including photography, drafting articles, design & layout of newsletters, books, and other printed literature in liaison with other directorates/departments.
  20. Promoting long term engagement of stakeholders in tree growing and forest conservation through facilitating appropriate Communication channels.
  21. Promote public values and principles
  22. Mentoring and coaching
  23. Responsible for resource mobilization for the Department

Additional Information:

Person specification

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Journalism, International Relations or other related fields of study from a recognized institution
  2. Master’s degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Journalism, International Relations or another relevant course from a recognized institution
  3. Management course of not less than four (4) Course weeks.  
  4. Ten (10) years relevant work experience out of which 3 years should be at the level of Principal Communications Officer/management or its equivalent
  5. Management course of not less than four (4) weeks.  
  6. Member of professional body –PRSK
  7. Proficiency in Computer applications

Key Competencies and skills

  1. Conversant with the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
  2. Member of a professional association such as PRSK
  3. Good oral and written communication skills in Kiswahili and English
  4. Good analytical skills
  5. Skills in resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement
  6. Experience in policy formulation
  7. Team player
