It is the first and only organization dedicated to refugee girls in East Africa. Over the past twelve years, RefuSHE has grown to become a leading institution and global thought-leader in the field of refugee girl protection, education, and empowerment.

Scope and Objective
RefuSHE is seeking a professional consultant who is ready to support the Mental Health Department in its mission to expand RefuSHE’s psychosocial services through a Community-Based Program that will serve more refugee women and young girls. The main objective of the consultant will be to develop/design a mental health curriculum including training packages. This will be based on the needs of the community. Further, the consultant will offer direct mentorship on the curriculum to the Mental Health Team, deliver training to the Community Para-Counselors to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to offer psychosocial support and finally supervise the Mental Health Team as they offer the training.

Deliverables:

• Hold discussions with the Mental Health, Case Management teams and 12 Community Para-Counselors on their experiences with the refugee community to inform the guidelines on mental health curriculum.
• Review secondary data collected on community mental health needs
• Identify thematic areas/topics of training such as introduction to counseling (basic counseling skills), psychological first aid, trauma, depression, anxiety, stress management, case management, self-care, peer debriefing and any other topic deemed relevant
• Designing and developing mental health curriculum content, training materials, training modules and training aids in collaboration with the community mental health team, case management and community para-counselors as the primary stakeholders.
• Contextualize mental health gap training package for 4 Mental Health Counselors and mentor them on the content
• Deliver training to 6 Community Para-Counselors
• Supervise 4 Mental Health Counselors as they train 12 Community Para-Counselors
• Monitor progress and impact of the training
• Review training manual as per feedback received from Mental Health Team and Community Para-Counselors
• Provide a checklist for each training session to be used by Mental Health Team
• Submit reports on observations, learnings, recommendations etc. in line with the activities during the consultancy period.

Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Training or certification in trauma and stress management will be an added advantage.
• Strong in Community Mental Health Curriculum Development
• Strong and practical experience in conducting and delivering trainings in modules
• Solid experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support at community level.
• Preferably in-depth understanding and experience working with refugees
• Language (English and Kiswahili) – spoken and written
• Report writing skills
• 8 years plus experience
