Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Formulate, implement, and review county communication policies, strategies, and frameworks.
- Coordinate the development and dissemination of official county information, statements, press releases, and reports.
- Promote the county’s vision, mission, and development agenda through effective communication strategies.
- Manage crisis communication and safeguard the county’s reputation.
- Act as the link between the County Government and media houses to ensure accurate, timely, and fair coverage.
- Foster positive relations with local, national, and international media outlets.
- Organize press briefings, interviews, and official events for the Governor, Deputy Governor, County Public Service Board and office of the County Attorney.
- Facilitate public participation forums and stakeholder engagement in line with constitutional requirements.
- Ensure that official communication channels within the County Government are effective and consistent.
- Oversee county government digital platforms, including websites, social media, and enewsletters.
- Champion innovation in digital communication to enhance citizen access to information.
- Ensure branding, visibility, and consistency across all county communication materials.
- Ensure compliance with constitutional provisions on access to information, freedom of expression, and public participation.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on the impact of county communication strategies and campaigns.
- Prepare periodic reports on communication activities, media coverage, and public perception for submission to the CECM and County Assembly.
- Promote professionalism, accountability, and service excellence within the communication department.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Be a Kenyan citizen with national identification card.
- Certify the requirements of Chapter six of Kenyan constitution 2010 on Leadership and Integrity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations, or related field from a recognized institution.
- Master’s degree in Strategic Communication, Public Administration, International Relations, or related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional body such as MCK, PRSK, CIPR, or equivalent is desirable.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in communication, public relations, media, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior management position.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic communication, media relations, and stakeholder engagement.
- i Strong knowledge of the Constitution, Access to Information Act, and county governance frameworks.
