Background
The Debrailler/Braille Transcriber will support students who require learning materials in accessible formats at Mount Kenya University’s Thika Campus.
Responsibilities
The position will involve converting academic and institutional materials between Braille and printed text. The successful applicant will help ensure that visually impaired students can access learning materials, examinations, notices and other university information.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Transcribing printed academic materials into Braille.
- Converting Braille documents into standard printed text.
- Preparing accessible learning and examination materials.
- Supporting visually impaired students in accessing academic information.
- Organising and maintaining Braille documents and related records.
- Checking transcribed materials for accuracy.
- Working with lecturers and academic departments to prepare accessible content.
- Supporting the Dean of Students’ office in disability inclusion programmes.
- Maintaining confidentiality when handling examinations and student documents.
- Assisting with the proper use and care of Braille equipment.
- Supporting the timely production of accessible materials.
- Reporting challenges affecting access to learning resources.
