An officer at this level shall:
- Plan, coordinate, implement, monitor and control administrative functions of various Units of the Students' Affairs;
- Manage the expenditure of the Student Governing Council;
- Oversee the smooth transition of the Rongo University Student Association;
- Coordinate in conjunction with the students' organization various activities of the students;
- Organize clubs, societies and other associations activities;
- Supervise and coordinate all students' publications like newsletters and newspapers;
- Oversee the management of Students Centre facilities;
- Coordinate Alumni matters;
- Supervise staff in the Unit including ensuring target setting, performance evaluation, mentoring, training and development of staff in the department;
- Advise the Student Governing Council in matters concerning its functions;
- Administer Rongo University Student Association elections;
- Clear internal and external students' correspondence;
- Provide secretarial assistance to the Dean of Students;
- Receive students' disciplinary cases and process them in consultation with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ASA) for the Students Disciplinary Committee;
- Assist in clearing students leaving the country to other countries in conjunction with the Ministry of Education;
- Keep in safe custody all Rongo University Student Association equipment;
- Promote placement and employment linkages for students;
- Promote and maintain students' welfare (including work study, religion, clubs, societies and bereavements) and ensure conformity to University goals and policies;
- Enforce adherence to rules and regulations by students to promote harmony and achievement of academic pursuits among students;
- Liaise with the general public and other stakeholders on student matters;
- Identify and recommend needy students to the management for support;
- Attend to any queries or complaints and address them or channel them to the necessary office;
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements for Appointment
- Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, Education, Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Master’s Degree in Humanities, Education, Psychology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- At least fifteen (15) years relevant work or counselling experience, nine (9) of which should have been in an institution of higher learning;
- Computer literacy;
- Training in public relations;
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
- Fulfilled requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
- PhD qualification is an added advantage.
