About the job
The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented team player who will oversee the entire order process. You will review proposals, negotiate prices, select the best suppliers, analyze trends, follow up with placed orders, verify delivery, approve payment, and maintain necessary records.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle all procurements and logistics of all approved engineering & maintenance parts and equipment as necessary.
- Liaise with engineering stores for timely and quality acquisition of spares and consumables to maintain re-order levels and lead times of the assorted stock items, taking into consideration part consumption, delivery terms, clearance time etc.
- Coordinate the clearing and forwarding of spares of equipment for both local and overseas orders and advise the plant engineer accordingly.
- Liaise with engineering suppliers to solve any query or problem related to deliveries, payments, shipping/procurement, standard etc., and advise the plant engineer as necessary.
- Follow-up safe deliveries of all local and foreign orders as appropriate.
- Receive purchase requisitions from the chief storekeeper duly signed (approved) by the plant engineer and source for quotations (pro-forma invoices).
- Prepare petty cash (advance) vouchers with the approval of the plant engineer for the purpose of cash purchases of urgent items and ensure reconciliation and tallying as necessary.
- Follow-up on cheques and advance payments with the suppliers and contractors after the deliveries or job is done or otherwise as their terms apply and ensure a good working relationship.
- Ensure that the performance of engineering department in terms of buying is within the budget/estimates (liaise with your boss).
- Ensure availability of parts and equipment as soon as they are required and participate in reducing downtime as appropriate by acting fast at any given time.
- Ensure your involvement and contribution towards the achievements of the company and engineering department targets.
- Get involved and contribute to realizing the vision of engineering department which is “to ensure maximum plant & equipment, building and services/utilities availability, reliability and efficiency”.
- Draft/prepare annual, quarterly, monthly, semi-annually and weekly procurement plans to the plant engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
- Diploma in Purchasing & Supplies Management or CIPS professional Qualification will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience as a technical buyer within a manufacturing set-up.
- Good negotiation skills, commercial understanding and high levels of integrity.
- At least five (5) years of relevant experience.
