JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide field-based agronomic and extension support to farmers, focusing on organic production systems and certification requirements to ensure compliance, improved productivity, and sustainable farming practices.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide on-site agronomic support on assigned farmers/farms
  • Guide farmers on organic production standards and certification requirements
  • Support implementation of Internal Control Systems (ICS) for organic certification
  • Conduct farm visits, demonstrations and basic farm training sessions
  • Monitor farm practices to ensure compliance with organic standards
  • Assist farmers with proper record keeping for organic certification
  • Identify and recommend approved organic inputs for soil fertility and pest management
  • Conduct farm inspections and pre-certification checks
  • Collect field data and prepare reports related to crop performance and compliance
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with farmers and local stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma or Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Science or related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience working as a Field Officer
  • Knowledge of organic farming systems and certification standards (e.g., EU, USDA)
  • Experience supporting organic-certified or transitioning farms is an added advantage
  • Willingness to work in rural areas and travel frequently
