Our client, a leading organisation in the manufacturing sector, is seeking to recruit a Financial Accountant to join its Finance team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, effective cost management, robust financial controls and compliance with applicable accounting and statutory requirements.
The role will provide financial support to manufacturing operations, with a particular focus on cost accounting, inventory, fixed assets, working capital and financial reporting.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Manage month-end and year-end financial close processes.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and perform account reconciliations.
- Prepare management reports and provide detailed variance analysis.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in line with applicable accounting standards.
Cost & Manufacturing Accounting
- Manage product costing, including standard costing, cost updates and variance analysis.
- Analyse material, labour and overhead variances.
- Monitor and evaluate Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
- Support cost optimisation and operational efficiency initiatives.
Inventory Management
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation and stock accounting.
- Participate in stock counts and reconciliation processes.
- Monitor inventory movements and investigate discrepancies.
- Manage provisions for slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
Fixed Assets & CAPEX
- Maintain an accurate and complete fixed asset register.
- Ensure appropriate capitalization of assets in accordance with accounting policies.
- Calculate and post depreciation in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Track and monitor capital expenditure against approved budgets.
- Conduct periodic physical verification of assets and reconcile identified differences.
- Manage asset disposals, transfers and impairments.
- Maintain appropriate controls over asset safeguarding and utilisation.
Payables, Receivables & Working Capital
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices and payments.
- Monitor accounts receivable and support timely collection of outstanding balances.
- Prepare and review payables and receivables ageing reports.
- Reconcile supplier statements and customer balances.
- Identify and highlight working-capital risks.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable Kenya Revenue Authority requirements.
- Support statutory reporting and tax filing processes.
- Liaise with external auditors and relevant regulatory bodies.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Implement and maintain effective financial controls and accounting policies.
- Ensure compliance with audit and governance requirements.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trails.
- Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance against approved budgets.
- Provide explanations for significant variances.
- Provide financial insights to support management decision-making.
Audit & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities.
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to audit queries.
- Work closely with Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain and Commercial teams to support business objectives.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field from a recognised institution.
- CPA(K), ACCA or an equivalent professional accounting qualification, either completed or in progress.
- 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing, FMCG or industrial environment.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and Kenyan tax regulations.
- Practical experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP or a similar platform.
- Demonstrable experience in financial reporting, reconciliations and month-end close processes.
- Experience in cost accounting, inventory management and variance analysis will be highly relevant.
- Exposure to fixed assets, CAPEX, payables, receivables and working capital management is desirable.
