Job Summary
- AKU- Department of Medicine is seeking a Fulltime Faculty, Gastroenterology. The incumbent will undertake clinical and educational functions under the supervision of the department Chair or delegated individual within the department. He/she will be responsible for admitting, consulting and undertaking diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under the gastroenterology service in addition to seeing patients in the gastroenterology clinic and supervising residents assigned to the clinic rotation. They will also see patients in a defined outreach clinic within Nairobi. The faculty will be allowed to order tests and radiology and will consult with sub-specialists when necessary to ensure top-notch patient care.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will:
- Establish integrated efforts among consultants to ensure the best treatment plan
- Provide counseling/education to patients and their families on wellness, prevention and early detection
- Participate in the development of education programmes and implement mechanisms for teaching
- Lead, plan and organize the formation of an efficient and efficient gastroenterology service
- Develop policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the programme
- Execute short and long-term strategic plans for the department
- Promote and undertake research activities to strengthen the programme and AKUH Nairobi
- Organize and implement a quality assurance programme for the programme
Requirements
- Should have completed a Masters in Medicine or its equivalent
- Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
- Should have completed a fellowship in gastroenterology
- Should have teaching and research experience with a minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience
- Should be a competent specialist recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
- Should be innovative with good managerial skills
- Should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team
