In Kenya, GIZ collaborates closely with host communities and refugees to improve livelihoods, governance, and humanitarian-development coherence.

Role Overview & Scope

The Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) Advisor will provide technical expertise and strategic advisory services in Kakuma Municipality to support refugee inclusion, self-reliance, and host community integration. The Advisor will lead multi-stakeholder engagements, aligning local development strategies with international displacement policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Advisory: Provide technical guidance on the implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees framework within local government and community structures.
  • Multi-Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise between humanitarian agencies, local government authorities, civil society, host communities, and refugee populations.
  • Program Implementation: Design, monitor, and evaluate initiatives aimed at economic inclusion, social integration, and access to services for displaced persons.
  • Capacity Building: Facilitate technical workshops, institutional strengthening, and policy dialogue on refugee management.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Migration Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working in refugee-hosting environments, migration management, or durable solutions initiatives.
  • Skills: Strong diplomacy, field-level stakeholder coordination, policy analysis, and cross-cultural communication abilities.
