The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This consultancy is located within UNEP’s Communication Division, which leads the organization’s global communications and advocacy efforts. The Division delivers high- impact communication products and campaigns that raise environmental awareness and enhance UNEP’s visibility worldwide. The role requires strong traditional graphic design expertise combined with advanced fluency in digital-first and social media-driven design. Under the overall guidance of the Director of the Communication Division and the direct supervision of the Communication Lead for Special Events, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for developing and implementing a cohesive, modern, and innovative visual identity for World Environment Day 2026, Champion of the Earth as well as other major UNEP campaigns and initiatives, as required.
Responsibilities or duties
Creative campaign concept with multiple visual explorations and use cases • Campaign look and feel applicable across all platforms • Comprehensive brand and visual identity guide (typography, colour palettes, layout systems, and usage rules) • Design input to the campaign marketing brief • Social media assets and templates • Billboard, poster, and outdoor advertising designs • Website and digital campaign visuals • Presentation decks and campaign toolkits • Final, production-ready files for print, digital, multimedia, and web use • Campaign wrap-up report
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in graphic design, visual communications, or creative direction, is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in in graphic design, visual communication, or creative direction, preferably supporting international organizations or global public-facing campaigns, is required. Proven experience developing campaign visual identities, brand systems, and style guides from concept to execution, is required Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign; motion tools such as After Effects, is required. Demonstrated experience producing assets across print, outdoor, digital, social media, web, and multimedia formats, is desirable Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, multicultural or international environment, is desirable Demonstrated fluency in Canva, Figma, and comparable modern design platforms, including the development of scalable, brand-safe templates for non-designers, is desirable. Strong understanding of typography, layout systems, and contemporary design trends, is desirable. Working knowledge of accessibility, inclusive design, and brand compliance requirements is desirable
Experience needed
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in in graphic design, visual communication, or creative direction, preferably supporting international organizations or global public-facing campaigns, is required.
