Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Grounds Crew Leader to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia. The Grounds Crew Leader will oversee a team responsible for the maintenance and servicing of improved grounds, operational areas, and stormwater drainage systems, ensuring compliance with specified appearance and operational standards.
Responsibilities or duties
- Supervise and lead a team of grounds crew members in maintaining improved grounds, operational areas, and stormwater drainage systems to ensure a neat, functional, and visually appealing environment.
- Develop and implement schedules for routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, pruning, weeding, planting, mulching, and watering to maintain landscaped areas.
- Inspect and ensure proper operation of stormwater drainage systems, taking necessary actions to address debris, blockages, or maintenance needs.
- Respond to service orders and ensure all maintenance tasks and issues are addressed promptly and in accordance with service requirements and standards.
- Utilize landscaping equipment and tools such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other machinery safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate the maintenance and repair of landscaping equipment to ensure optimal performance and reduce operational downtime.
- Monitor the condition of the grounds, identifying areas in need of enhancement or repair to ensure compliance with appearance standards.
- Train and supervise grounds crew members in the use of equipment, adherence to safety protocols, and performance of routine and seasonal grounds maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, government representatives, and other stakeholders regarding work plans, progress, and service order status.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations, environmental practices, and contractual obligations.
- Report maintenance concerns or deficiencies to management and assist in implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, service orders, equipment use, and team activity to support contract compliance and reporting.
Qualifications or requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- 2-4 years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with landscaping techniques and operation of grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other power tools.
- Basic understanding of stormwater drainage system maintenance and operations.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to manage and direct a team effectively.
- Familiarity with safety standards related to grounds maintenance tasks, equipment operation, and handling.
- Ability to inspect, identify, and resolve grounds maintenance issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to read and interpret service orders and maintenance schedules.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and using basic software to document maintenance activities.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
- Valid country driver’s license and passport.
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
- Certification or training in landscaping, groundskeeping, or related fields, such as horticulture, irrigation, or drainage systems.
- Familiarity with environmental maintenance standards, especially within the context of government or military programs.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, balance conflicting priorities, and schedule work efficiently to meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining a large area of improved grounds and knowledge of prestige and standard service levels for government-related grounds maintenance.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
