JOB PURPOSE
The Head of Transport is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the school’s transport fleet, ensuring the safety of learners in transit while managing staff, budgets, routes and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Transport Management, or a related field
Licensing: Valid driving license and working knowledge of PSV/commercial licensing requirements
Experience: 3–5 years in transport/fleet management or logistics, including supervisory experience (an added advantage for experience from a school)
Compliance Knowledge: Working knowledge of national traffic laws, vehicle licensing, and child-safety transport standards
Background Clearance: Clean police/background check (mandatory given regular contact with minors)
Core Skills: Budgeting, fleet management software/GPS familiarity, strong communication and composure under pressure
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage vehicle maintenance, servicing, fuel, insurance, licensing, and records.
- Plan and optimize learner pick-up/drop-off routes and schedules.
- Recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate drivers and transport assistants.
- Enforce safety procedures, including seatbelts, speed control, headcounts, and emergency protocols.
- Manage transport incidents, accidents, and reporting.
- Communicate with parents and school leadership on transport matters.
- Prepare and monitor the transport budget and recommend cost-saving improvements.
