Position Overview

Our client, a well-established organisation operating in the automotive and manufacturing sector, is seeking an experienced, hands-on, and results-oriented Human Resources & Operations Manager. The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership of the Human Resources function while supporting effective organisational operations. The role will focus on strengthening people management systems, workforce capability, employee relations, performance management, HR governance, and administrative effectiveness across the organisation. This position requires an HR professional who can move beyond routine personnel administration to become a strong business partner to management and Heads of Departments, while driving effective HR systems, controls, and people-development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

HR Strategy & Workforce Planning

  • Develop and implement the organisation's HR strategy and annual HR work plan in line with business priorities.
  • Lead workforce planning, organisational structure reviews, and manpower optimisation.
  • Advise the Managing Director, Executive Directors, and Heads of Departments on strategic and operational people matters.

Recruitment & Talent Management

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment, selection, onboarding, probation, and confirmation processes.
  • Lead skills-gap assessments and develop annual learning and development plans.
  • Establish competency-development and succession-planning programmes for critical positions.
  • Support compensation and benefits reviews and employee-retention initiatives.

Performance Management

  • Implement and institutionalise a structured performance management system, including objective setting, KPIs, quarterly reviews, annual appraisals, and Performance Improvement Plans.
  • Strengthen performance management practices across departments and support managers and supervisors in effectively managing employee performance.

Employee Relations & HR Governance

  • Provide professional guidance on employee relations, grievances, disciplinary matters, and employment-law compliance.
  • Strengthen employee engagement, communication, workplace culture, and employee-retention initiatives.
  • Ensure employee contracts, personnel files, and other HR documentation are complete, current, and properly controlled.
  • Implement and continuously review HR policies, procedures, SOPs, and employee-management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Kenyan employment and labour legislation.

HR Systems, Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate employee information within the HRMS and strengthen HR data quality and controls.
  • Develop and present HR dashboards covering headcount, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, performance, training, and employee-relations trends.
  • Use HR data and analytics to support management decision-making and identify areas requiring intervention or improvement.

Payroll, Benefits & Administration

  • Coordinate leave, attendance, employee benefits, and approved payroll inputs while maintaining appropriate controls with Finance.
  • Oversee assigned administrative functions and ensure effective HR service delivery across the organisation.
  • Strengthen administrative systems, controls, and processes to support organisational efficiency.

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Coach and support managers and supervisors in effective people management.
  • Drive change-management and organisational-development initiatives.
  • Promote a professional, accountable, and high-performance workplace culture.
  • Support continuous improvement of HR and organisational practices.

Qualifications & Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • Must have CHRP-K Certification or be a finalist.
  • Membership in good standing with the relevant professional HR body in Kenya.
  • Strong knowledge of Kenyan employment and labour legislation.
  • Strong proficiency in HR information systems, Microsoft Office applications, and HR data analysis.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with a minimum of 2 years in an HR management or senior HR leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing or strengthening performance management systems.
  • Strong experience in employee relations, disciplinary processes, and employment-law compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruitment, learning and development, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Experience implementing HR policies, procedures, controls, and HR information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to use HR data and analytics to support management decision-making.
  • Previous experience within the automotive, manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, logistics, industrial, or a similarly operational environment will be a strong added advantage.
